Custom Regulations - Argentina
General Information for Importation

Shipment must arrive in Argentina within six months of shipperīs entry into the country or three months before.  (To enter before, contact us in advance to coordinate with customs).  Although it is not necessary for the shipper to be physically present at customs for clearance formalities, he must be in the country to sign certain papers and present us with his original passport.

Documentation required for Importation of Household Goods

  • Argentine Citizens and Foreign Citizens with Permanent Residence

    a)  Valid passport showing clearly that shipper has been a resident in another country for a period not less than 12 months, and that such residence has not been interrupted with entries into Argentina for more than 60 days in the last 12 months prior to re-entry.

b)  Two original B/Līs or AWBīs.

c)  Consular Certificate (not required for foreigners).

  • Foreign Citizens

    a)  Valid passport with resident or turist visa.  (If possible, it is best to obtain resident visa at origin.  Nevertheless, clearance can be performed with any visa).

    b)  Two original B/Līs or AWBīs.
  • Diplomats / Military Personnel

    A Diplomatic Franchise must be obtained from the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Diplomatic Mission or the Foreign Official Organization where the shpper is officially employed.

Special Requirements

Foreigners with Temporary  Resident Visa.  May pay import duties (normally about 50% of value) or may bring personal effects and household goods into the country under temporary admission in accordance with the present guarantee system.  The belongings must be guaranteed (bonded) for the duration of the visa and must be renewed concurrently.

Goods can be guarantee by:

a)  An insurance company.

b)  The authorized Corporate Attorney of a company that is registered as an import/export agent and has their signature registered with Customs Authorities or

c)  The authorized Corporate Attorney of a company in conjuction with the presentation of Corporate by-laws.

If at the expiration date of the guarantee the visa has not been renewed, the goods must be re-exported.  If a permanent residence visa has been obtained, the goods must be nationalized.

Importation of Fire Arms

First of all, you have to ask the Argentine Consulate at origin, the authorization for the importation of this kind of articles.  With this certificate, and here in Argentina, the owner (perssonally) has to go to the  "RENAR" (fire arms office) and get the final authorization for the importation of the arms.  

Please note that the arms must be loaded near the door of the container to be verfied at Customs in Argentina.  We can clear and deliver the rest of the shipment but the arms must keep under Customs custody until the client complete all procedures at "RENAR".  This procedure can tak aprox. 15 or 20 days.  After the client complete this procedure, Argentine Customs will give the fire arms back to the client.

Importation of Automobiles

  • Diplomats

Are able  to import used or new cars.

  • Returning Argentine Citizens

May import used cars only (one for each member of the couple).

  • Persons with Permanent Resident Status

May import used cars only.

  • Persons with Temporary Visa

May import used cars under temporary admission.  The car is only allowed temporary admission for a maximum period of 16 months after which the car must be removed from Argentina.

General Requirements:
1)  Car must enter Argentina within 6 months after shipper/owner arrival.
2)  Car must be under shipperīs name.
3)  Importation of new cars is subject to Ministry of Commerce regulations and is limited to certain types of vehicles.

Documentation Required:
1)  Ownerīs original passport.
2)  Two original B/Līs.
3)  Complete car documentation.
4)   Original purchase invoice.
5)  Consulate certificate (issued by the Argentine Consulate at origin).

Duties / Taxes:
Approximately 79% car CIF value for normal cars and 100% for diesel cars.
Allowance is made for two cars per family (under different names).

Importation of Pets

1)  Obtain a health certificate (not more than 30 days since the day of issue) and valid vaccination certificate for the animal.

2)  Have this certificate stamped by the nearest Argentine Consulate (if itīs possible).  This document should accompany the animal when it arrives in Argentina.

Documentation required for Argentine Exportation of Household Goods

a)  Legalized photocopy of all passport pages including blank ones.  Same must have been issued at least one year prior to date of move, otherwise, both old and new passports are necessary.

b)  Certificate issued by consulate of destination country stating that candidate has been granted a visa for more than one year (not necessary if visa is stamped on passport).

c)  Photocopy of one way airline ticket to destination country or certificate from airline.

d)  Non-Argentines must submit Legalized photocopy of DNI including blank pages (not necessary if visa is stamped in passport).

e)  Original temporary admission certificate of household goods (if the move arrived into Argentina after October 1995).

f)  Original temporary admission certificate of cars.

g)  Certificate of departure issued on behalf of candidate by his country consulate.

h)  Authorization for the moving company to permform jexport Customs Clearance.

Documentation required for Exportation of Household Goods

  • Argentine Citizens or Foreign Citizens who had not entered their Household Goods into Argentina by the Guarantee system

a)  The person who is moving must have been living legally in Argentina during the last year and must not have been abroad over 60 days (accumulated).

b)  The destinatioin country visa must have been issued in the last 6 months prior to entry, being this the maximum amount of time allowed for moving after the visa have been issued.  This visa must be stamped in the passport or a certificate issued at the destination country must be presented.

  • Foreign Citizens who had entered their Household Goods into Argentina by the guarantee system

a)  As from October 1995, Argentine Customs amended the system of entry of foreigners without permanent visa and introduced a personal belongings entry system under Guarantees.  The Customs gives a certificate of entry which will allow the exportation of the personal belonging imported.  In this case, the client needs not have been living in Argentina over one year and also, the days he has been abroad are not important.  

b)  The visa or visa certificate issued by the destination country will be required.

Exportation of Fire Arms

The owner must drop out the fire arms at the "RENAR" (fire arms office) and the certificate obtained has to be added at the regular documents needed for the Customs Clearance procedures.

Exportation of Automobiles

  • Automobiles owned by Foreigns with Temporary Resident Visa

Foreign citizens settling down in Argentina have the right to import their automobiles temporarily for the time authorized by the Customs, normally 8 months, renewable for the same period of time.  When this guarantee expires, the car MUST be removed from the country.  For the exportation, the certificate of entry is required together with the documentation requested by Argentine Customs.

  • Nationalized automobiles owned by Argentine or Foreign Citizens

a)  Request specific information for each case.

Exportation of Pets

Any person, Argentine or foreign has the right to export their pets.  The procedure is very simple and the Customs only requires to submit the international animal sanitary certificate issued by the Argentine Sanitary Authorities with certified copy of passport and air ticket.

Prohibited Articles

-  Drugs, narcotics, medicines (unless for personal use in reasonable amounts).

-  New automobiles and new motorcycles, out of board motor.

-  Obscene magazines, liquors and tobacco.   

-  New electrical household appliances are exceeding the US$300.00 allowance per adult.
