Origin of the
Juan Peralta Ecology Award:
One of the major challenges in
today’s world is reconciling economic growth with a stable
environment. These two aspects are the mainstays of the modern
concept of sustainable development. A key factor in this
interplay – the moving sector – is striving to implement its
activities without adversely affecting environmental
preservation.
Faced with this challenge, the
PAIMA Board structured a set of integrated activities that
involve our members, the local manufacturing industry of carton,
paper and plastic, and our local communities.
These initiatives should
encourage and support efforts to devise environmentally friendly
systems which will pave the way to world sustainable
development.
The PAIMA Board developed the
following objectives and activities:
Advise, encourage and heighten
the awareness of our members regarding the importance of
enhancing and adopting new disposal methods of our industry’s
byproducts, such as cartons, paper, plastic, and wood, in order
to upgrade the environmental performance of our activities.
Integrate and coordinate this
process with the local packing materials manufacturer to create
THE CLOSED LOOP RECYCLING PROCESS in accordance with our member
possibilities and needs.
Dedicate in our publications a
page that includes environmental subjects related to our
industry.
Seek closer international
technical cooperation related to environmental issues.
Launch initiatives to encourage
PAIMA members to be more aware of environmental management
systems and to implement those systems.
Outstanding among these
initiatives is the PAIMA ECOLOGY AWARD, which should be given
annually to the moving company that has put into practice the
ideals and values of environmental responsibility in remarkable,
innovative, or particularly effective ways.
